Events/Happenings  during the Fmc Umuahia Housemanship Interview

first day (Houseofficers) 
This is the population that came for the interview for intending house officers exams yesterday at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
What can we say to the system that is only trying to help and do the required.
It’s imperative to say that the  entirety of all the sectors are working in shadow of a system laid before them without asking whether or not it has worked? could it be ?, or is there some thing different we could try? Like automated machines,the status quo is maintained.
Who is to be blamed?
Over 500 applicants came in for the exam. Slated for 9am, however started about 11:42am for the roll call.

The exam kicked off proper at around 1:45pm.

40 MCQs, the Essay and then the orals. In its thoroughness, lasted into the night.

The last group left there some minutes past 8pm.Big Kudos for the firm exercise.

The federal character working painstakingly.
Housemanship is said to be STATUTORY for every single doctor sworn into the medical profession. One will then ask, what is the exercise geared to achieve?
The induction, the temporal license and the 6 years plus theoretical and clinical exposure could not back up the title, then let’s believe the interviews would.lol.
500plus Doctors screened for a place that could only absorb plus or minus 100, is only but a show of what our prestigious medical profession promises to this present day and to the days to come.
If only those who are in the helm of affairs has this to ponder, then one can say, hope is on the way.
How a one year compulsory post graduation training is turning into a Medical students night mare gets the critical mind thinking 😔…. and fear of the unknown arises. 

  • What else will matter to you ?In a situation whereby  about 1-3years is spent  trying to secure a 1 year temporal job(training).
  • Have you ever considered the financial involvement in both applying and then  for the screening proper?
  • The risks and the pause click on your pursuits?

Amidst all these hassles, one will go ahead to pretend,”AM CALLED TO SAVE LIVES”Even in a system that is yet to prove itself.
Leadership is one thing, management is another.In case it has not occurred to you, Doctors represent a most vital fraction of the populace,this must not have to be due to what they past through but by the hope and joy they promise.

Swearing that Hippocrates oaths…worth all the emotions.Make no mistakes about this.
CAN INTERNSHIP/HOUSEMANSHIP BE CENTRALIZED?

IS IT REALLY STATUTORY?

CAN WE MAKE MEDICAL PROFESSION AS PRESTIGIOUS AS WE ARE CONSIDERED TO BE?
This is a dare to be different even in a very “compromising” part of the world.
